The Gas That Almost Stole Christmas…

If you’ve been reading this for any length of time, you may remember my family had an encounter with carbon monoxide (CO) in our home just before Christmas, 2010. Since CO is odorless, we were “lucky” that the furnace was also giving off a burning metal smell that warned us of the problem – or I might not be here to write this today.

Christmas then, and every year since, has been another Thanksgiving for us – and an opportunity to warn everyone that if you don’t have a CO detector in your home, get one – and if you’ve got one, make sure it works. It’s often neglected -- and is as, if not more, important than smoke detectors.
