From the desk of the desk jockey….

It’s probably no secret that I spend a LOT of time with hands on the keyboard (sometimes a couple keyboards), and eyes on the screen (usually two, often three, occasionally four). Along with that comes a lot of time in a chair.

That’s not great for positive physical and mental well-being if that’s your entire day, every day, all the time.

It’s that time of year again…

…when the weather demonstrates its power, all too often with awful and tragic results.

But it doesn’t take an F5 tornado for the weather to create problems… even the seasonal thunderstorm can create havoc for electronics – and that reminds us of the power and room environment issues we see every spring and through the summer.

From the (fake) email bag…

We order regularly from Amazon.com, some business, some personal; overall, it’s a LOT. At any given time, we might be waiting on 2 or 3 orders. But we’ve never ordered a phone from Amazon, so imagine the surprise when we got an email with the subject “Your Amazon.

Who’s got your back(up)?

We’ve started out 2017 meeting quite a few prospective new clients. No complaints at all about that. We’re always looking to help more businesses with their IT, digital marketing and related challenges.

The complaint, or at least, the concern, is when we start to look at the current state of a business’ IT (which is probably why we got the “help” call to begin with). What’s been especially striking, is the number of successful businesses who thought their backups were running successfully and being monitored for success – and when we ask “Who’s got your backup?” and start to really look, the answers have been scary.

The Gas That Almost Stole Christmas…

If you’ve been reading this for any length of time, you may remember my family had an encounter with carbon monoxide (CO) in our home just before Christmas, 2010. Since CO is odorless, we were “lucky” that the furnace was also giving off a burning metal smell that warned us of the problem – or I might not be here to write this today.

‘Tis the season…

…For even more viral and scamming activity than usual.

For me personally, heavy scamming first came to my Inbox around Thanksgiving, 2014. It started when I received a fax from “me”. I did not send myself a fax. I hadn’t sent anyone else a fax around that time.

After Holiday Season…

…comes “tax season” -- and it’s already not that far away for anyone wanting to minimize this year’s business taxes.

With that in mind, before too much Thanksgiving turkey induces sleep, it makes sense to review your IT and other high value assets now.

Do you still YAHOO?

Late last month,Yahoo! confirmed that nearly a half billion (with a B!) accounts were hacked in 2014! Nearly three years after the fact, this ranks as one of the biggest data breaches ever.

It’s serious enough when the bad guys get ‘only’ an email address and password, but this was even worse.
